How does a magnetic lock work?

In our daily life, it is not difficult to find that holding a access control card or access control tag/keychain in our hand can help us open the door safely. In fact, in the access control system, there is an electronic lock that is widely used which is called magnetic lock, it mainly used in various types of companies, schools, hospitals, units and enterprises, magnetic locks protect our daily work and life, so a small magnetic lock can generate great power and lock the door firmly. So many people will have questions, how does the magnetic lock work? Is it just electric current to drive the electromagnet?

What is a magnetic lock?

Definition of magnetic lock: Magnetic lock is also called electromagnetic lock. Its design is to use electromagnetic induction to make the door open and close. The current magnetic lock does not have a complicated mechanical structure, so it is very suitable for use in the doors of safe passages, such as escape doors, fire doors and other areas.

Its design is the same as the electromagnet, which uses the principle of current to generate magnetism. When the current passes through the silicon steel sheet of the magnetic lock, the electromagnetic lock will generate a strong suction force, which tightly attracts the adsorption iron to achieve the effect of locking the door. Usually we use the weak current in access control system for power supply. Generally, a voltage of 12V and a very small current can generate a large magnetic attraction, which can effectively control the access control system of the magnetic lock. By identifying whether the card swipe is legal, If it is legal to power off, the magnetic lock loses suction to open the door.

KG/LBS for Magnetic Lock

If you observe carefully will find that the magnetic lock has some black rubber on its surface. In fact, it uses epoxy resin to protect the lock body. These protective measures make the lock body more secure and reliable. And this reliability is also reflected in the suction force of the magnetic lock. At present, the suction force is expressed in pounds (LB).

At present, the unit of attraction strength of the magnetic lock is pounds, and the test method is obtained by static pressure. Static pressurization means that the magnetic lock slowly increases the pulling force on the adsorption magnet after the magnetic lock is energized. When the suction force of the electromagnet is exceeded, the adsorption iron plate is instantly pulled away, then this value is the pulling force value of the magnetic lock.

Usually, a certain pulling force is applied to the magnetic lock and the lock plate. This pulling force is usually Calculated in kg, that is, the nominal form of “how many kg magnetic locks” are usually used on the market. Usually there are 60KG/ 180KG/ 280KG/ 350KG/500KG.

Advantages of magnetic lock:

Because of its ability to open immediately after power failure, it is usually used in escape installations, and it is also an essential lock system for consumer channels. It only needs a very low current to operate, which not only saves electricity very well, but also contributes to green energy saving and environmental protection.
